 Nueces County – What brings you joy? Whether it’s cozying up with a new story, learning a new skill, gathering with community or something else, you can find your joy at Nueces County Public Libraries.

National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.

At Nueces County Public Libraries, we invite everyone to join the celebration! Whether you're a longtime patron, a new neighbor, or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer. Our library provides free Wi-Fi, digital collections, activity kits, storytimes, STEAM programs, etc., ensuring that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect.

Whatever brings you joy, the library has something for everyone. Whether you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family, or embracing retirement, Nueces County Public Libraries is here to support your journey. Libraries serve as hubs for learning, creativity, and connection, helping people of all ages explore new ideas and opportunities.

National Library Week 2026 Dress up Days

  • Monday, April 20th:
    • Book Character Day: Dress as a beloved literary book character.
    • 9:30AM: Tales & Trails Walking Club
    • 5:00PM: Family Movie Night
  • Tuesday, April 21:
    • Super Reader Day: Dress as a favorite superhero to show "Reading is a Superpower." 
    • 10:00AM:Wiggly Storytime
    • 5:30PM: Mr. Kippy Storytime
  • Wednesday, April 22:
    •  Wacky Wednesday: Wear crazy socks/hats or mixed up clothing to promote the joy of reading. 
    • 10:00AM: Toddler Earth Day Celebration
    • 11:00AM: Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Presentation
    • 5:30PM: Kids Earth Day Celebration
  • Thursday, April 23:
    • Animal Print Day: Wear animal prints to celebrate "Books bring out our Wild Side!"
    • 11:00 AM: Toddler Storytime & Craft
    • 5:00 PM: Scrapbooking 101
  • Friday, April 24:
    • Outer Space Day: Dress as astronauts, aliens, stars or planets to show "Reading is Out of this World."
  • Saturday, April 25: 
    • Tourist Day: Dress as a tourist to celebrate "Reading Takes you Places."
    • 9:30AM - 2:30AM: History Day
    • 10AM - 2PM: Día de los Niños
  • First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
