Summer Reading Challenge
NCPL’S Summer Reading Challenge Begins June 1st, 2026
Pre-Registration Begins May 18th, 2026
Registration for the Nueces County Public Libraries (NCPL) 2026 Summer Reading Challenge opens on Monday, May 18 and the public is encouraged to participate in the library system’s wonderful tradition of promoting reading among children, from birth and up, as well as teenagers and adults.
There is no cost to register for the reading challenge, and it’s open to everyone, regardless of their county of residence.
Dates to Remember:
Registration runs from May 18 through July 10th.
Logging in Minutes Start Date: June 1st
Logging Minutes End Date: July 10th
The challenge is divided into four age-based categories, and to complete it, participants must log in their summer reading hours and activities they read and attend at the library on the online program Readsquared at nuecescountylibraries.readsquared.com/.
Coinciding with the 6 week long reading challenge are complementary library activities for children, middle and high school students begin during the week of June 1. These activities will be listed online at library.nuecescountytx.gov/services/calendar-month-view/-curm-6/ in the events calendar and on Readsquared calendar.
Participants may register at any Nueces County Public Library online by visiting www.library.nuecescounty.gov and clicking on the Summer Reading image, which will become available on the homepage on Monday, May 18. When the online registration form has been completed, readers will have their online page to record their books and reading time starting June 1st.
Participants may also register and log their minutes by downloading the free Readsquared app to their mobile device from Apple App Store or Google Play.
Reading rewards can be redeemed beginning Monday, June 1st. The last day to pick up prizes is Friday, July 17 and may be collected from any Nueces County Public Library. No prizes will be mailed.

Any and all reading counts! Reading to your child, listening to audiobooks, reading a newspaper, and more may be counted in your reading log. Missions and some events also counts as points too! Be on the lookout for missions an events that are posted on Readsquared throughout the month of June and July.
